News from Caversham Park Aquanauts (CPA) the friendliest scuba diving club in Reading.

Annual AGM

Yes, it's that time again! Members are invited to attend the AGM for Caversham Park Aquanauts 2006.

The meeting will be held on Tuesday November 7th at Woodford Park, Woodley, from 7.30pm for pre-meeting drinks and discussions, followed by a prompt start at 8pm. The AGM will follow the normal structured agenda set out in the club constitution, including committee member’s reports and the election of the new committee for the coming 12 month term.

We aim to keep the meeting on track and to maintain good order by sticking to the agenda. If you have a point that you intend to raise at the AGM which you would like the club to consider please let Glyn Fox or Kate Melvile-Ross know in advance.

By attending the meeting you will be able to vote at the latter part of the evening for the election of the new committee - and a good turnout is essential, so please make every effort to attend. If you are unable to attend you can appoint a proxy to vote on your behalf.

CPA The outgoing (current) committee
At the AGM we will seek votes to elect the new committee.
The current committee are as follows:

  • Chairman: Glyn Fox
  • Diving Officer: David Jerram
  • Secretary: Kate Melville-Ross
  • Training Officer: Steve Howes
  • Equipment Officer: Kevin Abley
  • Publication Officer: TBA
  • Treasurer: Lisa Knibs
  • Social Secretary: Lisa Knibs and Kate Melville-Ross

Whilst some of the above members may consider standing for election again, it is important that you attend to vote for your preferred candidate for all of these positions. If you feel that you can contribute in any way, or would like to have a go at a position for the coming year the existing committee will be glad to hear from you and will provide every assistance to you.
This club survives on your active participation, and it is healthy for club members to take part in the committee if they feel that they would like to contribute.

Awards 2006
Finally, as always we will be voting for members to receive one of three trophies.
These are:

  1. The Mick Mercado trophy
This trophy is awarded to the member that has given the greatest contribution to the club.
  2. The Aquanaut of the year trophy
This award is given to the member that has best demonstrated what it's all about.
  3. The Hughie Award
This award is generally given to the member that has been seasick most often - although it is also available to the member that has made the biggest gaff during a dive.

We are seeking your nominations for these awards. Please contact either Kate Melville-Ross, Glyn Fox or another committee member with your choices, giving reasons why they deserve the award. You can provide your nominations at the AGM if you prefer.

We look forward to seeing you at the AGM.
