News from Caversham Park Aquanauts (CPA) the friendliest scuba diving club in Reading.
One Rib or Two?
For some time now, CPA have had the luxury of two Rib power boats. Club members can be trained as boat handlers and can take these boats out for diving when accompanied by a qualified VHF radio operator and an O2 administrator.
However, the club is currently considering if having two boats is really necessary - and some voices are proposing that we need just one, larger boat.
The club are invited to vote at our AGM on the action that needs to be taken, and there are three choices (motions) to consider:
- The club keeps both ribs. A vote to keep both ribs will involve additional effort on the part of the members to sustain increased activity both for diving and raising awareness of the club.
- The club sells both ribs and invests in one new / larger boat. This will involve aggressive fund raising on the part of the members.
- The club sells the smaller Humber. This money will be used to consolidate club training, make effective maintenance and updates to the Tornado and provide funds to invest in future enterprises. The club will make do with one rib, and will make more use of hard boats for weekend diving.
During the AGM in November members will be asked to vote on the three options set out above. Each member is entitled to vote - and can appoint a proxy to vote on their behalf if they cannot attend the meeting.
